• Blue Shield of California says it has agreed to pay $2 million to settle a lawsuit with the city of Los Angeles that alleged the provider wrongly dropped policyholders after they became ill and other unfair business practices.

Commentary:

• Thus, in addition to dealing with the stress of an illness, the patient must deal with the stress of fighting an insurance company who has disgracefully abandoned the patient when the patient needed help despite the fact that the patient had been honorably paying money (i.e. premiums) to the insurance company to help the patient if the patient became ill.
